This week is Induction Week for anyone starting a PhD at Sussex this January! We’re excited to welcome you to the doctoral community with a series of events that will start you on your PhD journey.

Our induction events introduce some of the key services that support PhD researchers at Sussex, offer you a chance to meet other new PhDers and get to know the doctoral community, and provide discipline-specific advice from faculty and more experienced PGRs.

While we are mainly planning in-person events, we know that you won’t all be on campus in the first week. We will be running an online session and provide recorded materials so you don’t miss out.

Next week is also Refreshers Week, organised by the Students’ Union. We have a vibrant, active union at Sussex who work for postgraduates as well as undergrads. Check out their What’s On webpages for events, including a Refreshers Fair, network meetings, society socials and Postgraduate Speed Friends on Friday 27 January.

Our new doctoral researchers webpages are designed to help you navigate your PhD journey, with resources and video interviews from current doctoral researchers and staff across campus. The site provides you with the information you need to get started, and covers supervision, networking, wellbeing, progress, training and lots more.

There’s also a Welcome to doctoral researchers Canvas site which was created for researchers who started in September. Some of the content is aimed at students starting university for the first time, but it covers the key support services at Sussex, and will be particularly useful for anyone who is new to the university, to Brighton or to the UK.
