SussexDocFest is the highlight of the PGR calendar, bringing researchers together to learn, share their work and celebrate all things postgraduate research. We’re showcasing a different theme each week in the lead-up to the big event.
The first of our themes, on Monday 3 June, is Careers.
The day is curated by Kathryn Mountford from Careers and Entrepreneurship, who support postgraduate researchers at Sussex with their career development. Whether you’re keen to stay in academia or move into another sector, it’s never too early to think about your next move. Not sure where to start? These sessions will tell you how.

Pathways to Success: Leveraging your research skills for career progress

An interactive workshop designed to support PGRs in identifying and articulating their research skills for career progression in both academia and commercial or public sector settings. Throughout this event, you’ll engage in various activities aimed at highlighting PGR strengths, building confidence, and exploring career paths. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of your extensive research skills and how to effectively communicate them for future career opportunities.
Catalysing Connections networking event

Catalysing Connections aims to create a vibrant platform where attendees can exchange ideas, forge meaningful connections, and explore diverse career options. There will be opportunities for informal networking among PGRs, ECRs, employers, and University staff who can offer guidance and encouragement, as well as keynote speakers including the Dean of the Sussex Researcher School and Sussex alumni now working in a variety of sectors. Their stories of adaptability and achievement will inspire.
